Compassion Vs. Enablement

When we do something students or families could do themselves, when we change rules or time expectations repeatedly, or exhaust ourselves personalizing assignments we are often viewed as “helpful” or “compassionate”. But, does our help empower our students and families to be more responsible? Or has our kindness merely delayed the timeframe of learning responsibility thus causing them more difficulty in the long-run?

If you’re tired or frustrated from always “helping” others, this workshop is for you! I designed this workshop to explore and challenge our beliefs about the nature of “helping” and to be able to determine whether we’re enabling our students or being compassionate. Our morning session will feature engaging discussion around the workshop questions, followed by a fabulous lunch (provided). Our afternoon features several fun activities to help us release old patterns. We will create new empowering beliefs and strategies which support your self-care needs AND help our students and families in the long-run.

All “Sustainable Me” workshops are held in beautiful spaces in the metro area of Colorado.

Next event: coming soon in 2023!

Compassion vs Enablement Workshop

Workshop Questions

Why do we chose to enable? What are the feelings we receive when we enable our students or over-give?

What can we do to replace the feelings we get when we over-give or enable?

What patterns of enablement do you see in the population of students you teach? What are ways you can be compassionate and empowering instead?

What patterns of enablement do you see in the parenting styles of your students? How can you help parents to understand and begin to change their beliefs?
